I have a friend older than me in an independent living facility. He started having dementia symptoms when we took six cats and my rabbit to Withville VA when we evacuated eastern NC during hurricane floarance. On the way there,I realized something was wrong. I knew something was really wrong when he asked:"What is that bright light over there?" It was the time readout on the microwave oven. He had to go to the er twice while we were in Withville. Getting home and till 2021,things escalated and came to a head when he lost his pills, dumped leaves and sticks in the washing machine and turning it on..This was after wrecking his car (no one was hurt.) My friend Katherine, has power of attorney talked with him ,and they both agreed it was time for him to go into independent living,so he's in a safe place in NC. I left NC after the hurricane and call him twice a month. His decline has been heartbreaking. He goes from being a sf writer (non professional) and retired MRI tec to someone who can't use a computer. Katherine has his phone set up so only 3 people can interact with him and we three are on speed dial. I call him twice a month.
