"Facebook set aside another $3 billion in restricted stock units to be granted to WhatsApp’s founders and employees that will vest over the next four years." Pretty much $19billion. Crazy amount of money though. I don't really know why they did it to be honest. There is already FB messaging apps and now this. Whatsapp doesn't even have ads!!!
It definitely dwarfs that 3-4 billion they wanted to pay for Snapchat.
It comes out to $40 per person.
That is a huge gamble.
i read that when microsoft bought hotmail they paid about the same much. 10 million users at the time, price was $400 million.
As long as they're paying with overpriced currency (in this case FB stock), they don't care how much they pay.
Oh so they paid 16 instagrams?
Just shows you how much of a steal instagam actually was
WTF why so much???
Buying the users they're losing.
It's evil genius really. If it works out of course.
Blackberry are probably kicking themselves for not releasing BBM for all platforms years ago.
Blackberry are kicking themselves for MANY things they have and haven't done the last several years. They are dying.
They've been dead to me since the playbook. Never again.
How many users do they have now?
Atleast 20 million as per http://www.technobuf...-ios-android-launch/ although I would guess somewhere closer to 40-50 million by now?
Not too bad, BBM is the only messenger I use.
The funniest part is that the founder of whatsapp went to twitter and facebook looking for jobs before creating whatsapp.... lol poor facebook
Go home Facebook, you're drunk.

The extra $3B is to employees over a vesting period.
