    Thoughts on Riders of Icarus

Riders of Icarus is a hybrid tab-target / "action combat" MMO that was recently released on Steam, with the promise of interesting creatures to tame, action combat to rival TERA and similar, but what is it really like?

My personal experience with the game could be summed up as "disappointment". Maybe with the "crushing" adjective if I actually anticipated the game like some of my friends had; instead, it was sprung upon me at release as somewhat of a surprise. Of course, being the fickle MMO consumer I am, I gave it a go. I've played it for a couple hours (it's all I could really stand) before I was too bored to continue. It's your bog-standard tab targeting themepark MMO with gold spammers, rotations ("combos"), skimpy armour, fairly poor visuals, and so on. The taming system would've been interesting if they hadn't gone full Korean with it and had it so you could only use 100 taming points a day. The action combat portion of it was plagued with issues: either not actually targeting (that's right! it's not actually TERA-like action, it just autotargets...) or taking multiple seconds to actually target, lack of maneuverability, and inability to dodge attacks if it's a gap-closer or ranged attack. Latency was a huge problem that reared its ugly head, too -- and I have a good internet connection with an average of 50-100ms within the US to most places. Also, the quests. I am tired of "kill/deliver/gather X of/to Y" as quests. It's not fun, it's just tedious.

Of course, all of my experience is completely anecdotal and the opinions of a jaded, cynical individual, and I'm curious to hear what other people have to say on the matter. What are your experiences with Riders of Icarus?
