Have We Really Discovered A Huge Alien Megastructure Around A Star?
Last week, the internet was abuzz with the news of a mysterious object orbiting a distant star 1,500 light-years away that was blocking a huge amount of its light. With no obvious candidate for what the object could be, one scientist suggested the very faint possibility that it could be artificial in nature – yes, made by aliens.

The chances of this us finding evidence of an alien structure around this star is roughly equivalent to me buying the winning lottery ticket in the next Megabucks drawing, infinitesimally small. But that chance is not zero so it's fun to speculate. I'm sure someone will find a reasonable explanation to describe the weird light curve from KIC 8462852, but until then I'm going to hold on to that little shred of hope that we've found evidence that we aren't alone in the universe. When do those lottery tickets go on sale?
