This is almost exactly what I picture under the surface. I know it's not true, but the logical part of me just can't beat that innate fear of the deep dark ocean, known and unknown terrors underneath the surface. I like this image because it illustrates my fears without making me close the window in a hurry, like other images of the depths where you can only see a glimpse of... something.

Same here. When I look down and see only dark water I assume the worst. I think our brains evolved to interpret "nothing" as "probably full of monsters". It makes sense as a survival strategy.
I'm not afraid of open water personally, but this illustrates the feeling I get when I swim in the ocean and peek down to the depths below. I'm pretty sure I'm never so far out that I'm beyond the continental shelf, but it's still amazing to think of all the mysteries that linger in those depths... I find it exhilarating.
I like how crowded the sea feels in this painting. Also kudos to the poster for sourcing the image and giving credit where due! A recent snap outlines this process found here
Thanks! i always try to source cool art I find. I live with a couple artists, so I know the pride they take in their art. I'd never want their work to get any less attention than it deserves.
This has always been my issue when exploring the Internet for art - so many people post something and either do not source or post it as their own, and if I like the style and want to see more, or support the artist by buying a print, sometimes I just can't find the original source. It's become a little easier nowadays with reverse image searching and whatnot, but sometimes knowing you're going to have to go through the daunting process of finding an original source puts me off trying to find it before I even get started.
As soon as I can't feel the ground or see my feet in a large body of water I instantly panic. I imagine a shark bolting towards my feet and ripping them off or a 100 foot blue whale swallowing me whole.

TBH I sometimes still imagine Gyarados under the water... The Official Pokémon Handbook (1999) scarred me for life.
