Commented in Furniture Row Racing is shutting down; Martin Truex Jr. will find a new team

The takeaway from this is that NASCAR has gone out of its way to say there is nothing bad happening in terms of sponsorship and the costs of competing in the sport, yet Furniture Row Racing has gone from winning a Championship last year and dominating parts of this year to shutting down because they can't find the necessary funds and sponsors to continue running. If a Champion that won many of the races last year and several this year can't find a sponsor what hopes do the others have? NASCAR is in trouble.

Commented in ZeroPhone Is "Coming Soon": A Raspberry Pi-Based, Linux-Powered Phone For Just $50

It looks like the internals of an old Nokia phone. If this thing is going to be run on a rpi that means it's OS will be run off of an SD card, I just don't know if that's a good thing. I've had rpi media players and game players and at some point that sd card corrupts, maybe in newer rpi's that isn't a problem but in older ones it was.

Also, I'm willing to bet that price is the cost of the phone pieces and the board not the cost of the case, sd card and charger cable.

As far as the drawbacks are considered, the ZeroPhone will have a smaller screen size — 1.3-inch 128×64 OLED display and will be initially launched with 2G SIM connectivity with 3G and 4G options available gradually.

So... I'd be better off buying some old phone off of eBay or Amazon than this thing due to the lack of data or a screen to use that data with. Because let's face it the most touted feature of this is the no tracking stuff, well it's still a phone there will be tracking in some form.

Commented in Verizon throttled fire department’s “unlimited” data during California wildfire

If only the Fire Department would turn this into a lawsuit over false advertising practices and have them disallowed from using the term Unlimited in their advertising and force them to be very upfront about the slow speeds you get later.

Commented in Vegan Musician Bryan Adams Says Removing ALL Animal Products From His Diet Was the Best Thing He Ever Did

I'm glad he found a diet he likes, but maybe I like eating meat, and short of that meat sickness tick biting me I'm probably never going to stop.

“Buying fresh food is expensive, but so is the cost of dodgy health,” Adams continued.“I cured myself of all kinds of ailments purely by changing my diet.”

This is the real problem, they've made the outer walls of the grocer the most expensive, the inner is cheap and unhealthy. I can buy fruit that will last 2-3 days for $10 or I can buy 10 bags of chips for the same price and last for a month and a half. Guess what I'm buying.

Commented in Cancer: one in four too scared to seek medical help over symptom

And here in America, we are too scared to get checked because it's going to come with a $1mm fee and $2mm in medicine. If I had the ability to get a screening like those on NHS I am pretty sure I'd get screened yearly, catch it early and hope it's not deadly.

Commented in PC case maker CaseLabs says it has been 'forced into bankruptcy and liquidation' by US tariffs

It's entirely likely the tariffs have pushed them to the brink, but I can't help but wonder how much trouble they were in before if this came on so quickly. Like how Harley said they were opening the plant in Thailand in 2017, then during the tariff thing said they were moving jobs from the US to Thailand due to the tariffs... while possible I feel it was entirely plausible the plan was to move them the whole time and the tariffs made it convenient. In that same vein, I feel like this company could be using the tariffs to cover losses, so I guess I just want to see the financials before I believe it fully.

Commented in Conservatives call for constitutional intervention last seen 230 years ago

I don't see why this is a problem, my understanding of the Constitution is this is completely legal and a way that the country has built-in checks and balances, plus my understanding is if they open it it's open to everything not just their wants but others as well. Just because a function of the constitution hasn't been used in a long time doesn't mean it isn't still valid.

“Once you call a convention literally anybody can bring up anything,” said Jay Riestenberg, a spokesperson for the non-partisan watchdog group Common Cause. “We can bring up an amendment to overturn Roe v Wade or the Civil Rights Act,” Riestenberg added.

I understand that's a fear, but at the same time Democrats could bring up limiting the 2nd Amendment something that 2nd Amendment people fear.

Commented in Wells Fargo says hundreds of customers lost homes because of computer glitch

8 Million dollars, 400 customers, 20,000 each. That's not going to replace their houses, their credit that is now ruined, etc. And I am willing to bet they'll use the General Motors defense, we went bankrupt this company isn't the same company as the one that did that.

Commented in Over 5 Million U.S. Consumers will Cut the Cord in 2018, Survey says

With the use of Triple Play or Double Play packages and data caps, they have already jacked up the rates. AT&T or Comcast are my options and both have a data cap, we use about 1.5Tb a month, so we have to use AT&T for cable because with them having TV means no data cap. Internet only is about $100 now for 75/5 plus $50 for "unlimited data."

I'm considering turning the home phone into a cell phone and dropping to locals only tv to keep the no data cap and going to Sling. Problem is all those tv streamers just announced price hikes and Sling is fighting Univision on price rates which means it'll possibly go up again soon.

Commented in Why I Stand With Julian Assange

I am afraid he burned all his goodwill with the United States citizens or at least a lot of them when he sided with Trump. Trump people still hate him for the Snowden stuff and Anti-Trump hate him for helping against Hilary.

Commented in Amazon Prime Day deals 'not what they seem'

Amazons use of limited numbers and countdown clocks were the worst and most blatant in your face pressure technique. I did end up with an AmazonBasics Wired Xbox One controller, guess I'm a sucker. Still thinking about getting that Chinese knockoff Fitbit too.
