Commented in Looks like the Xbox Live Gold 12-month subscription option is getting phased out

Effectively this is a $40 price increase without calling it that. As the one year sub was $60 and four of the 3 month passes is $100.

Commented in New York to invest $750 million to expand electric-vehicle infrastructure

While many carmakers, including electric vehicle pioneer Tesla Inc, have significantly increased the range of vehicles on a single charge, many consumers are still put off by the higher sticker price and a lack of charging infrastructure, according to various surveys.

This is why I don't think they will catch on the way the eco people want them to. What New York is doing is a good idea, everywhere should be thinking about it, but the pricing is high. On top of that you have the wait times for a charge, I think it's something like 20 minutes for 80% and up to an hour for 100% if you have the fast charger and that's on the Nissan Leaf that goes maybe 70 miles per charge, it's probably more for a Tesla or other 400 mile battery.

Commented in Poorest Americans drink a lot more sugary drinks than the richest – which is why soda taxes could help reduce gaping health inequalities

Yeah, because this idea works really well with cigarettes. It's all about profit, as more and more people opt not to smoke and the older smokers start to die off, they need to replace that sin tax with a new one, and right now sugar is the low hanging fruit. Then in the future when less people drink sugary drinks what happens, something else is going to get the sin tax.

I wonder if they count Kool-Aid, Apple Juice and Juice Boxes as part of this, I was shocked when I first learned that apple juice has the same or more sugar in it than some soft drinks.

Commented in Taco Bell is slashing potatoes from the menu, and vegan and vegetarian customers are furious

It's all about profit, if there is no profit to be made from potato or vegetarian options they won't last on a menu. I'm more upside about 7 layer burritos and nacho's supreme being removed they've been on the menu for like 20 years.

Commented in This Could Finally Be the Year of E Ink, Seriously

I'll believe anything tablet like with e-ink is coming when I see it. They've been pushing rumors for years that color e-ink is ready and coming to an e-reader like the Kindle at any time, and while I think one very expensive reader that wasn't from a big brand in e-readers came out there has been little movement in the e-ink screens used by e-readers for some time, I think we've had e-ink Carta since 2015, with most research mostly going into how to light it or keep it water proof in different ways by Kobo and Amazon.

Commented in YouTube TV sharply increases monthly subscription to $64.99

I don't think it was any real secret this was going to eventually happen, much like regular cable they hook you early with lots of channels for cheap then they add more or have to negotiate a new carriage agreement and prices increase, it's what happens on cable every six months when they start running banner ads, Dish Network HATES YOU AND ARE REFUSING TO CARRY FOX SPORTS NETWORKS, SWITCH TO DTV!!! and then Dish runs an ad banner that says FOX SPORTS HATES YOU AND ARE ASKING FOR TWICE THE PRICE TO BRING YOU SPORTS, TELL THEM NO YOU DON'T WANT TO PAY MORE!!! Then they settle for a modest price increase the two will then pass on to consumers while they laugh it up.

Cord Cutting options are the new cable tv. We already see this in not just YTTV but also in Netflix that constantly increased prices as the carriage agreements went up in price, and in Hulu and Amazon Prime, etc. Disney won't be content to sit at $7 a month, I imagine within a year they'll bump the price up to $10 and crow about how this is still a great deal and cost less than Netflix.

Commented in Gaming on Apple platforms is set for some big changes—here are a few

With the switch to ARM from Intel I imagine things are about to get worse for Apple and Gaming, at least on Macbooks and Towers and the removal of Bootcamp is a major fu to gamers that also wanted a Macbook. Things won't really change all that much on iPad and iOS devices because they were already made for those types of devices. I'm not really looking to play Android/iOS style games on my computer.

I sometimes wonder how much this change to arm is in response to hackintosh and not the bad chips intel was making.

Commented in PS5 price leaks for both consoles — and it won’t be cheap

$400 for a digital only console is still too much, IMO, I think even Xbox with the Xbox One S Digital had to drop the price under 200 to get it adopted, then shortly after dropped the Xbox One S with BluRay to 200 making me wonder if the Digital was a complete flop.

Digital is billed as the cheaper budget friendly option by both MSFT and Sony but in the long run for poorer people that will be drawn to these supposedly cheaper consoles that won't end up being the case. Digital games almost never come down in value, where Gamestop while nearing bankruptcy can still offer better deals on disks. Let's take Red Dead Redemption for Xbox 360/PS3 as an example, Digital price for the game is $30 on Xbox Marketplace, but I can get it for 9.99 used at Gamestop and it will be the Game of the Year Edition including the DLC, which I'd have to buy separate from Xbox Marketplace for an additional $10. But NinjaKlaus why did you use a X360 game as your example, simple because it's so much older than Xbox One games it shows that the digital price is just insane, at least for this commenter. Of course with the caveat that Gamestop cuts out the publisher and Microsoft from the profit and digital can't do that.

Oh and I didn't mean to comment all about Xbox but it's the only example I have right now with a digital only console.
