Interesting stuff - although on another note, which occurred to me as I read this piece - given that 'terrain' refers to Earth / Terra, will we invent new terminology for other worlds ? Or will that remain undecided until we begin to live out there?
As far as I'm aware terrain just refers to relief of land and has no direct relationship to earth, therefore, it is perfectly acceptable to use when referring to other planets.
