The 'Gawker tax' is getting too high, Denton tells his staff
"There’s a thing called the Gawker tax which represents the cost of selling these brands that any moment can blow up, they can blow up because of internal dissension, they can blow up because of a story that goes wrong, and they call it the Gawker tax. My estimate of the Gawker tax is the gap between the revenues of Gawker Media and the revenues of Vox Media, the gap is around $20 million a year and the gap is increasing,"

This is bad news. I love gawker for their honesty. Yeah they publish so bottomfeeding stories, but they find some gems in there. And they've never sugarcoated the truth. Looks like that might start to change.
It's interesting that both Gawker and Reddit are having these huge top-level controversies that involve major upper level staff changes and drastic policy changes both around the same time.
