I started doing something similar last year, but on more of a rolling system. I noticed at the time a large portion of my day was getting eaten by Reddit, I was checking it multiple times per day and not seeing much positive benefit. I can't even remember what it was now, but something I read had upset me (I suspect it was the hivemind stifling conversation, but I really couldn't say now), and decided that I had to stop using something which was causing me so much mental anguish. It took some effort, but a month later I hadn't visited Reddit except on accident a couple of times, mostly clicking through to it before I even consciously thought about what I was doing.

The end result was a much more tempered use of the site, and one healthier for me. Since then, I've done the same with a few different things, websites and games, mostly. If I find it eating up a large chunk of my life without feeling particularly positive about that, I cut it out for a month.
