Sure enough, both Walmart and Target have struggled lately. Target's profit fell 16 percent in the first quarter from a year earlier, and U.S. same-store sales -- a metric of retail health that tracks sales at stores open at least a year -- fell 0.3 percent. Same-store sales have fallen in 12 of the past 20 quarters at Walmart's U.S. stores, according to data-tracking firm Retail Metrics.

Interesting, because Costco has been doing exceptionally well in comparison to Walmart as of late, maybe its not that people can order certain goods online but the overall way the two corporations approach doing business. While Walmart treats it's workers like low wage slaves, Costco embraced a totally different business model paying their workers above living wage and generally being a good guy. As long as Costco sticks with their awesome approach, I will continue to shop there and ignore Walmart in the meantime. I hope they suffer a long and agonizing death, Walmart that is...

I totally agree. Costco is my go-to choice as well. I have 2 friends that work there and you are right when you talk about Costco treating their employees like actual human beings. My support of small local business has been made easier by my ban of Walmart, the fact that Target choose not to occupy the Zellers that was just down the street from my house, and I live in a 'bedroom' community that concentrates all its big box stores at the other end of town to accommodate all the commuters to Toronto.
