Well that's disgusting.
They made the "OK" gesture off-limits though, so it all evens out, right?

Seems to me like a fairly transparent bid for control over how people use the internet in developing regions. I'd say it makes sense for Egypt and India to refuse

I'm planning on finishing up a short folktale as part of a worldbuilding project. And lounging around my apartment to the EXTREME.

The Chinese Room only demonstrates that a program in itself is not sufficient to make something sentient, not that it is impossible to make sentient AI. It is fairly obvious that sentient creatures evolved from nonsentient ones at some point in our planet's history. For us to emulate this evolution and move from deep learning to strong AI is simply a matter of improving our understanding of neurocognition. Saying that we will never understand the brain well enough to reproduce this naturally occurring transition to sentience is as short-sighted as saying that man will never fly.

I would like to think that anyone who claims to have taken part in a conspiracy to commit murder would be heavily scrutinized. Particularly when that book is presented as being backed by serious research.

I totally agree that Starcraft II might not be a great benchmark. Between perfect multitasking and a huge micro advantage, an AI with imperfect macro strategies could still be made very, very hard to beat.
