Terrible story. Seems like the mother had some pretty severe mental issues to begin with. Suffered from some form of break while he was with her and the child died because of it.
I am a little curious if the grandmother was aware of her problems (enough to be seeking custody of her grandson), why she didn't track them down long before the poor kid died.
A terrible story all around. Probably the worst part that, instead of receiving mental health treatment and proper medication, she will go to prison. Nobody is winning here.
