My mom doesn't know that I feel that way. I'm being as supportive as possible from 3,000 miles away. She did tell me that if I would make an appointment with a neurologist she would go to the appointment. But it has to be on Wednesday between the hours of 10 and 2, or she is just too busy to make it. Yeah, that's not a joke. My brother who is there 'taking care' of her is apparently too busy to make an appointment. I talked to him and he said, "Mom's refusing treatment and I'm not going to force her." It took me about 2 minutes on the phone with her to get her to agree to the appointment- begrudgingly. Sometimes I want to just tell them to go fuck themselves, deal with it without me. But, I'm not built that way, so I'll just eat shit and smile while doing so.
That's right. Many people consider dementia to be a disease. It's not. It's really a symptom of a number of diseases. For example, in the elderly, urinary tract infections can cause "temporary" dementia.
My mom is in the beginning stages of Alzheimer's. She is refusing treatment. It makes me sad and angry.
