Here's why we should create a RAA: Reddit Alternative Alliance.

Each site caters to a different audience and has a unique vision, especially this one which looks way more relaxed and less opinionated than Voat. But I still feel that an alliance is important since we're more powerful when we work together. There's no point in being at each other's throats- if the community is split 7 different ways, we only end up weakened and deformed.

Notice how a lot of media companies own multiple "brands" (ABC and ESPN are both owned by Disney, for example) This would be a bottom-up collaboration, one which users have the choice to opt into and have full control to opt out of at any time.

The way I imagine it is if you set up an account on any one of these services, you have the option of connecting your account to the other reddit alternatives and using it to sign in. Right after the sign-in page, a popup could appear saying "Did you know you can use your x account to participate in these other cool communities?", (A list of the alternatives would appear with checkmarks next to them) "Select the ones you want or click here to dismiss"

Now that your account is connected, you can submit content to your connected communities from any other site in the network, and the sidebar shows recommended threads from the alternative you're on as well as participating allies. Every link is reciprocal: If you see a link to a hubski thread on snapzu, then another user on hubski will see a link to a popular snapzu thread. You shouldn't have to link your accounts for this cross-promotion to occur since it's a natural way for users to find new sites and material they enjoy. Users, Tribes and subverse owners should always have the ability to opt-out of being seen elsewhere and if you don't want to see recommended threads from a particular community or website you can also block them.

A rollover grid icon in the top right corner gives you a drop-down list so you can instantly jump to other websites and participate in discussions there. Most importantly, your inbox shows messages from all your connected communities and lets you to reply to them without needing to leave the site you're on.

How does it help us? Engagement and Cooperation. By allying with other communities and providing optional methods of integration, we are building a network of reciprocity which helps every reddit alternative grow. It becomes easier for users to switch and find the place that's right for them, saving the trouble of making ten different accounts. At the same time, the communities are not merged: They remain separate and distinct for those who don't want the connection.

We also need a standardized markdown way to link to cross-site topics that's agreed upon and works everywhere:

/v/name- Links to the Voat Version

/s/name- Links to the Snapzu Version

/e/name- Links to the Empeopled Version

/h/name- Links to the Hubski Version

/8/name- Links to the 8chan Version (Not a reddit clone, but has a similar make-your-own board functionality)

Imagine if this takes off and we create a truly distributed online community, one which consists of many distinct centers. It can only be beneficial to cooperate for the time being instead of compete.

New member, feel like the invite system will limit growth and is a bad idea

Glad to be here! I'm on both Voat and Reddit (same username), and snapzu looks way better than either of them.. But this whole invite system thing will make it hard to get more users and slow the website's growth. I'm not sure it's such a good idea when snapzu could've easily tripled in size overnight.
