    Coercion—the use of physical, legal, chemical, psychological, financial, and other forces to gain compliance—is intrinsic to our society’s employment, schooling, and parenting.

    I was kind of wondering where the author was going with this, if it was meant to be a narrow examination or a broad overview. The answer is: broad overview.
