Are any of these things really new, though? I'd really like to know more about content content – not just the format thereof. Plus, things like "gifographics" and "involving the fans" seem like they belong in totally different categories. I wonder if this article is based on any real evidence. While the author acknowledges that podcasts are a "throwback," are they really gaining popularity? It seems like an animated YouTube series would be much more effective and accessible.

These things may not be new, but with the success of Serial, podcasts keep growing in popularity. A simple Google search will show you that, but then again, it is all related to what your industry is and if people will actually listen in.

Gifographics are just a new buzz thing marketers are trying to spruce up infographics. As you said, a YouTube series would be more efficient, but why not do both?

Live streams are "all the rage" I guess with Periscope and Merecat, but marketers aren't quite sure how to leverage this. Twitch took a while to gain a foodthold, so I think these new streaming options will take time to develop, but eventually just turn into event streams.

Involving the fans has always been the challenge for marketers. The more interaction we get from the customers, the more they become brand advocates and share the message with friends. Nothing is new with this, but the idea of a 2-way-street is gaining more and more traction and importance.
