Is this really a popular game like the article says? I can't say I've heard of it? Has anyone here played and can give me the rundown on the kind of game it is? Always looking for something new to try out.

      Hey, my time to shine.

It's been a few years since I've played VO, but the gist of it is that you're a dude in a spaceship. Your spaceship is crappy and you need to pay for fuel to keep that rust bucket moving. Mining ore is one way. Or, you can take tasks that get handed out on job boards and carry cargo here and there. There's other (bad) guys out there, so you'll need some weapons just in case you happen to run into them. Game's been around for 10+ years and yeah, they don't really advertise that much.

That's it in a nutshell. A 'open world' space game. Go from point to point and explore. Save up enough cash to upgrade your ship, upgrade your weapons, and keep flying. It's very reminiscent of Eve, but a lot easier to get used to .vs Eve's 'spreadsheets in space' complexity.

It was a fun game. I just haven't had time to play it, so let my account expire. Oh, one really nice thing to me is how aggressively multi-platform the game is. Play it on Windows, OSX, Android, whatever. Might check out the video I found under related links for a much fuller treatment to the game than I could give.

Oh, and if anyone wants to start a Snapzu VO game, I'm in! ;)

While you were describing I thought it was Eve for a second. Are there pay-to-win elements or anything along those lines?

heh. Well, they are a lot alike. Both have same premises.

To my knowledge, no. There are no pay-to-win elements. They do have two pricing tiers, depending on how much you want to pay ($1 a month, or $10 a month). I always went with the $10 a month plan.

Fair enough. I'll have to check it out sometime. If you want, feel free to PM me your username and I'll hit you up when I get in.
