Google will now require explicit consent for tracking European users

Wow, that's quite a victory for privacy.
That type of tracking is hardly a privacy issue and those who are that prissy can easily combat it. Meanwhile you have ten different apps on your phone that record your GPS information, have access to all of your contact information, and can literally post in your name on social media sites without your specific permission. Yet, a cookie is pure victory.
Those apps are installed and used voluntarily... this tracking stuff isn't.
It is voluntary, you voluntarily use a service that is free. You volunteer yourself as product when doing so.
You can also just not accept cookies and use the service without helping them make money which, as we know, eventually shuts services down that we like to use for what appears to be free.
Life is full of decisions and if google knows my last google search was for a Blu Ray Claymore Boxset then decides to show me a small unobtrusive add depicting a place to purchase an Elfen Lied Blu Ray Boxset that would be pretty awesome. I was curious what a decent price was for that. This doesn't invade upon my privacy anymore than going to a website and looking it up directly. If you are using the internet you are being watched on multiple levels. If you are using the internet legally, you wont ever notice.
It's a good thing more often than it isn't. Keeps a lot of disgusting people from doing a lot of disgusting things.
