This is how they keep costs down so we can have such cheap technology. Is the cost in human lives worth those savings?

As a total tech-nut, this is heart-wrenching. I suppose I need to rethink my whole outlook on the tech boom, and just where it puts humanity at large.

Human lives should be sacrosanct regardless of nationality, color, age or any other 'separating' factors.

This seems like an excellent place to boost technology recycling measures & the technologies that make that possible, or in my wildest dreams- asteroid mining. Seriously take the power out of these monster's hands and start reaching up towards the near-infinite resources overhead.

EDIT: Also seriously, a thumbs down for this? Boo to that person. I mean what's there to dislike here? I know that I dislike reading this stuff, and knowing that as a consumer I've had a a hand in it- but spreading that knowledge should be rewarded not condemned. Shame on you, sir or madam.

Typical of a lot of industries actually. This "race to the bottom" to maximize margins and pocket the difference is undermining social progress the world over. Even in our own backyards as the income gap is now a gaping maw swallowing our middle class whole.
