Fear of Flying (2012)
Playfully blending live-action puppetry with 2D and 3D animation techniques, Conor Finnegan builds on the visual flair and quirky storytelling displayed in his graduation film Fluffy McCloud with latest short Fear of Flying. Showcasing a more ambitious narrative than seen in his earlier work, Finnegan’s latest tale follows his feathered protagonist as he stocks up on supplies and battens down the hatches for a long cold winter.

Meet Buck (2010)
Buck is an ordinary guy. Well, if you accept the "deer head" thing. Today, Buck is going to spend the afternoon with his girlfriend who's so happy to see him (she's pretty much happy all the time). But when Buck finds out that her father is not the tolerant and sympathetic guy he expected, the Sunday afternoon turns really bad. Really bad. Like baaaaaaad bad. Directed by Denis Bouyer, Yann De Préval, Vincent Esousa & Laurent Monneron

2013 Oscar-Nominated Live-Action Short Films Reviewed
The short film category at the Oscars is typically a rushed-through affair so that the broadcast can proceed to more ratings-friendly moments. But the Academy Award-nominated short films make for some of the strongest categories of the event: all the nominees are, most often, very good. Here’s my take on the Academy Award nominees for Best Live-Action Short Film.

The Saddest Boy in the World (2006)
The world has conspired against poor Timothy Higgins and he has no choice but to hang himself. Always the dramatist, he chooses his own 9th birthday party as his stage. If you find this funny, good. If you're offended, it's okay—our paths were never meant to cross. The Torontoist said: "A miniature masterpiece. The self-explanatory story is a wonder, and if Jamie Travis isn't the next big thing we'll be entirely gutted."
