Welcome to the tribe for Math Teachers

This is a place for secondary math teachers from all over to get together and share resources and stories as well as discuss all things about teaching mathematics. Whether you teach math part-time or full-time you are in the right place.

As chief, I wanted to briefly introduce myself. I am a middle school math teacher in Fort Collins, CO in a public Expeditionary Learning school. Though I was originally trained as an art teacher, upon exiting college I soon realized that those jobs were far and few between. Leaning on my second degree of mathematics, I secured a job teaching high school remedial math and that is when I first realized that being a math teacher was my true calling. Since then I have taught at three different schools in the last four years before landing at my current job teaching middle school math. Throughout my journey, I have taken it upon myself to gather as much knowledge and as many resources to use in order to create a safe, engaging, and innovative space for students to explore mathematics. However, I have found over the years that it takes huge amounts of time and energy to find the right resources and to design the right lessons to teach complex ideas and then even more time and energy to test them to make sure they are worthwhile - in other words, more time than we have available during our busy schedules. My dream for this tribe is to come together as math educators to share what we already know to be full-proof and to provide each other with support in whatever other ways may be needed. I also hope that it can be a place for us to have radical discussions around anything related to mathematics.

Again, welcome and feel free to introduce yourself to the tribe in the comments below.
