In my view, there's a chunk of the government which is absolutely opposed with having public services, so are going out of their way to try to end those public services so that private companies can fill in the gap. Even when the public services are making hand-over-fist in cash.
I don't see an issue with public services. These are the services which deliver my mail, answer my 911 call, make sure my food is healthy, my water is clean. They build my roads, lay out my city, give me parks to play in and take care of my fellow citizens when they can't take care of themselves. These services are worth the taxes I pay for them.

The USPS lost 5.5 billion fiscal 2014. The first quarter of 2015 loss was a net 754 million. The 1.1 billion dollars referred to in this article was a new category for bookkeeping named "controllable income".
