The whole U.S. vs: Assad is rooted far beyond any simple rebellion. There was no U.S. diplomatic/political problem (point of fact: both Clinton and Kerry heaped praises upon Assad) until Assad inked a deal with Putin to supply Europe with a natural gas pipeline.
