The times in a flight that an airplane is most vulnerable is on takeoffs and landings. Slow speed, close to the ground. little time to recover. If you've ever see what happens when a bird gets sucked through a jet engine, you might be a little more concerned about drones in the flight path of a jumbo jet.
One of the safety concerns for the last 20 years or so has been a terrorist with a MANPAD taking out a plane on approach or takeoff. Well, stingers are a little harder to come by than drones, but a coordinated attack with a few drones could be just as effective.
