Aside from that, I think it's all about emotion. Let's face it, as we get older the sharp edges of excitement start to dull a bit. I played in bands through much of my early days, and it was very emotional. Anybody who's played in bands know that magic feeling when you are all in sync and it all just works. It's a real rush.
The old Eagles line, "You're losin' all your highs and lows, ain't it funny how the feeling goes away" is an astute observation. Simple, elegant and pretty accurate.
My tastes have changed over the years. I love to go to orchestral concerts, in fact anything live is thrilling to me, though I have to say that listening to long hair music as I was strolling across the parking lot to watch the Billion Dollar Babies Alice Cooper concert was never going to happen at that point in my life.
Right before I went to my first Allman Brothers concert, I was wondering if when I got older I'd be listening to my dad's music. I still listen to the One way Out, but now It's acceptable to like my dad's music too!
