This seems to be a combination of opinion and a few selected statements from Sanders. I'm pretty sure the author could come up with more evidence to support his position if he wanted to, for example look at his voting record on issues of war.

Having said that, it is true that the US government defines itself as a combination of agent of war and instrument to syphon money into the rich oligarchs. The only reason we don't think of the US as we think of governments that have killed comparable amounts of innocent people (or substantially less), is that the US controls the narrative. But I'm pretty sure the story will be told very differently some decades from now (if we haven't destroyed the human species in the meantime).
