I fly a lot. I had the worst economy class long haul in my life several months ago, via American Airlines.

Now I'm curious. What made it the worst?

I flew from HK to Philly via Fort Worth last December. It was a Boing 777 seat configuration 3x4x3. I flew regular economy. The seat was the worst I have ever experienced, it was truly torture. I didn't realize how bad it was until I settled down after an hour in the air. I realized that the arm support was so close to my body that my arm overhung it...in other words, there was nothing to rest my arm on. My knees touched the seat in front of me, which meant I could not extend my legs under the seat in front of me at all....not a bit...I've never had that before. It was incredible. This was no short haul. The other amazing thing was the head rest that adjust up or down...well I had to adjust it all the way up....and it was still touching my shoulder, which meant more insult to body as I had to slouch down to fit. I'm not a big guy, 5.11'' @ 200lbs.....but a 5.5" @ 150 lbs. would have barely fit in that seat. It's a joke and its dangerous. I ended up with a blood clot and I am still on blood thinners for another 2 months. Never, never again....and it will get worse, AA is rolling out new planes with even less space. If you are going on a long haul, check the plane you are on, the seat configuration, seat pitch and width.
