It's hard to disagree with this. I'd like to further emphasize the false duality in the elitist-vs.-Trumpist discourse. Maybe I'm just a weird guy, but I'm a left-leaning highly-educated foreigner working in a major American university, and yet I completely understand and sympathize with the sentiment that led us to Trump. Not only that, but I see how there is a strong argument for Trump being a less shitty option than Hillary (but still extremely shitty). Having said that, neither one of them will solve the fundamental issues that led us to this situation where they are the only choices. There's a long list of issues that we'd need to address to fix that, but the very first thing is to be able to respect each other's point of views and having civilized discussions, rather than continuing with the extreme political polarization that got us to where we are. If we keep fighting each other, were not fighting the real enemy.
