In an era of declining defense budgets, it's expected to hear things like this. A sustained war with Russia is far less likely to happen now than it was at the height of the cold war. We aren't going back to a 600-ship Navy, no matter how often sabers rattle or the military-industrial complex bleats.
I've been reading the new book "Ghost Fleet," which is a speculative look on this exact story. Yikes.
