Health officials kill proposal to curb mercury dental fillings
Senior U.S. health officials have squelched a Food and Drug Administration proposal that for the first time would have curbed dentists’ use of mercury – one of the planet’s nastiest toxins because it attacks the central nervous system – in treating Americans’ decayed teeth.

It would be interesting to see the studies from both sides. I could see an issue with mercury as it is toxic but I do not know of the studies that show this. I can also see the FDA's point in the disadvantage to the lower class as the filling that I had put in is the "silver" one because you can barely see it in the back tooth I had filled and the cost of the resin was twice as much as the "silver" on and that is with great insurance covering part of it.
Because they just don't care.
