A friend of mine recently said "Alice Goffman broke Sociology" which I find to be hilarious because of how much on the spotlight she has been in recent times. I wonder if it wasn't for the success of her book, or that she was such a high-profile scholar (from legacy of being Erving Goffman's daughter, and Princeton) if it would be scrutinized as heavily!

I would like to think that anyone who claims to have taken part in a conspiracy to commit murder would be heavily scrutinized. Particularly when that book is presented as being backed by serious research.
