When Sara invented a 'combat wheelchair', she received threats from D&D fans
People of all backgrounds and abilities play games like Dungeons and Dragons, so why did the creator of a wheelchair option in the game get death threats for the inclusion?

It rules that Baldur's Gate 3 is turn-based
Like Andy, I used to be happy commanding parties of adventurers in real-time, haphazardly slapping my space bar to pause the action so I could untangle yet another mess. I gladly defended the system from elitist turn-based adherents, but that was the old unenlightened me. Forget about him. I now know the truth: turn-based is a far superior way to play something like Baldur's Gate 3. The elitists were right all along.

Cyberpunk 2077 interview - we paint a picture and we let the player interpret it
This week may have been the last time we’ll see Cyberpunk 2077 before it’s released. Perhaps there’ll be a hands-on event later but having seen the game at the last two E3 and Gamescom events it’s clear that it’s getting very close to being complete. Previously we’ve interviewed level designers, quest directors, and lead quest designers and this time we spoke to senior concept artist Marthe Jonkers, who’s in charge of the team responsible for the real star of Cyberpunk 2077 – not Keanu Reeves but Night City itself.

Fable was originally a magic combat game that let you shape entire oceans and volcanoes
Fable, like pretty much every game Peter Molyneux was attached to, was wildly ambitious, and plenty of the features discussed pre-release didn’t make the final game. But Fable itself was already a vastly different game than the one the developers initially envisioned, and the idea of real-time tree growth doesn’t sound nearly as ambitious as what was planned for Wishworld. With a Fable 4 announcement increasingly likely, let’s look at what might have been.

25 Years Since The Release Of Final Fantasy VI – Looking Back At The Passion
25 years ago, Final Fantasy was already a hugely popular series. But with FFVI you can really feel the determination of the staff to not rest on their laurels due to the series’ reputation. These legendary creators took a look back at their memories of the development of this title with us. Eiji Nakamura – As the sound engineer for FFVI, he was responsible for the sound effects and sampling. He’s currently the president of Sound Racer. Kasuko Shibuya – Square Enix’s “Pixel Artisan”. As the graphics director for FFVI, she was in charge of the character pixel graphics.

Sekiro is a perfect subversion of everything Dark Souls has taught me
I've never liked a boss in Dark Souls or Bloodborne. I fear all of them, respect most of them, and outright loathe a few of them—but like them? No. They're terrors meant to be endured. Supernatural monstrosities that flail and slam and scream, and the only way I survive is by keeping my shield up and waiting for that split-second opening where I can sneak in a hit. And that's exactly how I approached every boss in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, the latest in FromSoftware's very specific (and cruel) blend of action RPGs.

Obsidian Says "The Outer Worlds" Will be Free of Microtransactions, Releases Screenshots
Obsidian Entertainment, which have recently announced their latest videogame in the form of "The Outer Worlds", have now come out of woodwork to assuage some fears gamers might have. In an increasingly microtransaction-ridden digital world, and perhaps not helped by the Microsoft acquisition that Obsidian Entertainment has undergone, fears of microtransactions being added to the game that's expected to be a Fallout spiritual successor naturally grew. Timothy Cain, original creator of Fallout, in an interview with Gamestar, put those thoughts to rest.

Bethesda says Fallout 76's nukes are hard to get and easy to avoid
Fallout 76's futuristic West Virginia is littered with nuclear missiles that players can use however they see fit. To some, that sounds like a humorous bit of chaos, but many Fallout fans are worried about what those nukes could do to their experience. That is to say, am I going to get spontaneously atomized while I'm out exploring? In a recent interview with Swedish games site FZ, Bethesda marketing VP Pete Hines addressed these and other fears regarding player-controlled nukes.

How Larian Studios skirted bankruptcy before making Divinity: Original Sin
Larian Studios is, for now, the Divinity: Original Sin studio. Its last two games, both Kickstarted and publisher-free, are the biggest successes the studio has ever seen. The Belgian developer didn’t go from obscurity to success, however, and it has been designing notable RPGs and strategy games, within and without the Divinity universe, for over two decades.

My life as the grandma guildmaster of Ultima Online Forever
Here in the United States, it was about 3 a.m. I had no idea what time it was in Sweden where my friend lived. He didn't care, either. He was drunk and sad and needed a shoulder to cry on, even though that shoulder was across the world. He wanted to die. I didn't want him to die. So, for three hours, I talked to him until he passed out and I could hear him snoring on our voice chat call.

CD Projekt Red Says Cyberpunk 2077 Will Be 'No Bullshit' Story-Driven RPG
The Polish game studio tweeted earlier today that its upcoming scifi game would be “nothing less than” The Witcher 3. The statement was aimed at quelling fears Cyberpunk 2077 might include microtransactions after studio CEO Adam Kicinski said “there will be a certain online element related to Cyberpunk” in an interview earlier in the week.

Kan Gao on the benefits and drawbacks of designing in RPG Maker
I compare RPG Maker to a pencil. With a pencil there are techniques to learn, but compared to the other writing tools, its the most simplistic one. But you can still create elaborate works with it.
