Google Has Finally Started Penalizing Mobile Websites With Intrusive Pop-Up Ads
If you hate pop-up ads and interstitials (those full page ads that pop up before a web page) while browsing the web on your cell phone, you’re in luck, because Google will be showing you less of them. Thanks to new regulations, any mobile web page that uses interstitials or pop-up ads will see their Google ranking tumble. Clean, safe, humane — producers say lab meat is a triple win
“The meatball that changed the world.” That was the enthusiastic prediction early last year from Uma Valeti, a cardiologist and now CEO of Memphis Meats, as he admired the freshly cooked meatball arranged gourmet-style on a plate. As a meatball, it definitely had a lot going for it. It was made by specialty chef Dave Anderson, using an Italian recipe. As it cooked in the frying pan, (click here to watch the video) it sizzled and smelled the way a meatball should. And the taste-tester gave it a thumbs-up.

Tesla's driver-assistance features, known collectively as Autopilot, have been vindicated. Elite Scientists Have Told the Pentagon That AI Won't Threaten Humanity
A new report authored by a group of independent US scientists advising the US Dept. of Defense (DoD) on artificial intelligence (AI) claims that perceived existential threats to humanity posed by the technology, such as drones seen by the public as killer robots, are at best “uninformed”. Still, the scientists acknowledge that AI will be integral to most future DoD systems and platforms, but AI that could act like a human “is at most a small part of AI’s relevance to the DoD mission”.

Mozilla's new logo is kinda ://
It's been six months since Mozilla, the non-profit organization in charge of maintaining Firefox, announced it was putting the future of its brand in users' hands. Kinda, at least. The plan was to solicit entrants for a new wordmark or logo, before handing them off to in-house professionals to finish off the job. After some pretty out-there submissions -- including one that would have seen a revival of Mozilla's once-famous dinosaur -- the winning design is markedly plain.

Security researchers call for Guardian to retract false WhatsApp “backdoor” story
A thirty-strong group of security researchers have co-signed an open letter calling for the Guardian to retract a story it published last week that had claimed mobile messaging app WhatsApp contains a “backdoor”. “Unfortunately, your story was the equivalent of putting “VACCINES KILL PEOPLE” in a blaring headline over a poorly contextualized piece,” writes academic Zeynep Tufekci, who organized the open letter.
