The Deadliest Link: The Legend of Zelda Battle Royale

The Zelda series stars Link, a brave young lad who is reincarnated countless times over the course of centuries and multiple timelines. My question is which incarnation of Link would win in a Battle Royale between the lot of them.

Rules:

  • Each version of Link is allowed to use all of the equipment obtainable in their respective games with only a few exceptions.

    • No Bottles or items that require Bottles are allowed_. This is because different Zelda games have very different bottle counts, ranging from no bottles in the NES games to a whopping seven in Majora's Mask 3D. Besides, these bottles often contain creatures such as fairies that are mostly unrelated to Link.
    • Companions are allowed provided they are integral to the game's narrative and/or mechanics. This includes Navi from Ocarina of Time, Tatl from Majora's Mask, Ezlo from Majora's Mask, Midna from Twilight Princess, Ciela from Phantom Hourglass, Zelda's Spirit from Spirit Tracks, and Fi from Skyward Sword.
    • Due to the complexity of having four Links with unknown personalities and equipment alongside one another, the two Four Swords games can be skipped.

Combatants

  • Skyward Link (Skyward Sword) - Fights with Fi
  • Minish Link (Minish Cap) - Fights with Ezlo
  • Adult Hero of Time (Ocarina of Time) - Fights with Navi
  • Child Hero of Time (Ocarina of Time) - Fights with Tatl
  • SNES Link (Link to the Past, the Oracle Duo, and Link's Awakening) - Only one game's set of equipment allowed, due to Link losing his stuff between games like Samus.
  • LBW Link (Link Between Worlds)
  • NES Link (Legend of Zelda and Adventure of Link)
  • Hero Chosen by the Gods (Twilight Princess) - Fights with Midna
  • Hero of Winds (Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass) - Fights with Ciela, Leaf, and/or Neri if Phantom Hourglass Equipment is Used
  • Train Link (Spirit Tracks) - Fights alongside Zelda's Spirit

Thoughts

  • Of the ten incarnations of Link listed above, five appear in 2D games, four in 3D games, and only one in both 2D and 3D. Six will have companions, possibly seven if Phantom Hourglass equipment is used.
  • Skyward Link is arguably the most precise fighter, as shown using the motion controls. This includes both his swordplay and his use of other items such as the bow and bombs. His ability to use sword beams even without full health is unmatched by any other Link. That said, his special equipment is hardly the best in the series
  • The Adult Hero of Time, like other 3D incarnations, can use locking on to engage a single enemy more effectively, and has some other useful tricks. The Longshot is probably the best variation of the hookshot in the series, the Golden Gauntlets allow for incredible feats of strength, and he can use alternatives to the Master Sword such as the Megaton Hammer and Biggoron Sword. However, he lacks the complex swordplay of most other 3D incarnations or the magical prowess of some 2D incarnations.
  • The Child Hero of Time is the most versatile incarnation, thanks to his arsenal of masks. The Goron Mask allows for travel at high speeds, the Zora Mask makes him by far the best aquatic combatant here, and the Fierce Deity mask is famous for its incredible offensive power at both close and long ranges. However, without these and other support masks, this Link has little special to offer.
  • The incarnation playable in Link to the Past and the Game Boy titles is definitely the most experienced Link, with four games of experience under his belt. He also has a fairly impressive arsenal in Link to the Past, including most of the series standards and the Pegasus Shoes. However, none of his games give him the ferocious combat experience of his NES and 3D cousins.
  • The hero of Link Between Worlds has the unique ability to fuse into the sides of structures and natural features as a painting, allowing him to dodge attacks and escape harm. His arsenal of equipment is diverse, and due to its use of a recharging magic meter, easy to incorporate into combat. However, the same magic mechanic also limits the frequency of his special equipment usage, and he his swordplay is very simple.
  • NES Link was in relatively combat-heavy games, with Adventure of Link containing probably the most developed combat in the 2D games. Adventure of Link also has relatively powerful magic in Adventure of Link, making him something of a powerhouse. However, he lacks some of the techniques of other incarnations, such as a spin attack. and the equipment he uses is not as extraordinary as many other Links.
  • The Hero Chosen by the Gods from Twilight Princess has the advantage of being able to transform into a Wolf and fight alongside Midna. His Hidden Skills also make him one of the best swordsmen listed here. He also uses unique equipment, including the Spinner and Ball and Chain, which could be difficult to counter. However, he lacks some of the magical and ranged prowess of his competitors, with only the Gale Boomerang standing out.
  • The Hero of Winds could easily rely on his Wind Waker arsenal, with basic swordfighting and an arsenal comparable or superior to his N64 counterparts. Were he to use his Phantom Hourglass equipment instead, he would sacrifice items like the Deku Leaf and Elemental Arrows in exchange for use of three fairy companions: Ciela, Leaf, and Neri. Ciela gives Link the ability to use Sword Beams, Leaf can quadruple his attack power, and Neri can do the same with defense. Note that only one of the trio can be used at a time.
  • The Links from Minish Cap and Spirit Tracks seem to be at a disadvantage.
