7/6/2015: What's Making You Happy This Week?

Did you see the new movie that came out this week? Did you go somewhere interesting, make something cool, or learn how to do something new? Did you discover a band / book / game that you love? What's the thing that's making you happy this week?

This is a casual discussion-based tribe for us to share recommendations, stories, events, and anything else we enjoyed in the past week. (It's based on the segment of the same name in Pop Culture Happy Hour) Every Monday there will be a new thread for that week's discussion.

So what are you enjoying right now?

I'm really glad that I found this tribe. It seems like a really nice environment is already developing.

This week, I'm off of school for the summer. I went to the beach on Friday, and even though it was packed, we still had a great time. I also just joined snapzu recently, so I'm glad I found that. It's a much healthier environment than any alternatives to it.

I've been reading the book Foreigner by C. J. Cherryh. So far it's really good, albeit quite different from what I'm used to reading. I'm glad it was recommended to me. I haven't been reading much lately, so I'm glad to get back into it.

Welcome! I'm also hoping that the community here will be a little more welcoming and nice than Reddit was, and so far that definitely seems to be true.

Foreigner has been on my to-read list for a while, but I'm always daunted by a 10+ book series. Now I'm trying to read for at least an hour a day.

That's an impressive goal! I always get sucked in by things on my computer or TV, so more than half an hour ends up being unrealistic for me. The series is long, but I'm actually excited about it. I think that it might help me get back into reading, like I'm trying to.

Change is making me happy this week. I found out that I couldn't transfer to the department that I wanted to transfer to at work, but I am able to transfer to another department that I am interested in right away. I'll be moving away from a negative group of coworkers (who I don't really mind most of the time, but they've recently started turning everyone against them) and picking up a new set of skills and responsibilities.

I also discovered a few new sites (as well as this one), which I am looking forward to getting used to, and becoming a part of. I also got a couple of Studio Ghibli movies in the mail, which I am looking forward to watching on my two nights off (I've already watched Whisper of the Heart, but I might as well watch Whisper of the Heart again, followed by The Cat Returns). Also looking forward to the PlayStation Plus update for this month.

Congrats! I still haven't seen Whisper of The Heart, but The Cat Returns is my favorite underrated Ghibli movie.

You should definitely watch Whisper of the Heart, then. The Cat Returns is a spin off of Whisper of the Heart (Not to mention that Whisper of the Heart is also a very cute movie).

        (And thank you!)

Oh cool, I didn't know that! I guess the word "returns" should have tipped me off.

To get us started: Recently I really like the show Mr. Robot. The pilot episode is one of the best I've seen in a while, and it's fun to see a show with a cyberpunk feel to it. Also, depictions of hackers on TV shows usually seem ridiculous, but this one (to my untrained eye) at least feels somewhat realistic.

Oooh nice idea. Okay so this week is the week after quarter end at work for me so whilst everything's still busy its not absolutely frantic. I might even have some time for a well earned day off - we shall see. Along with that I'm hoping to knock out a whole lot of tasks that have been hanging around for a while. I'm also playing through Alien: Isolation which is both frustrating and fun!

I've been wanting to play Alien: Isolation but I might be too chicken. On a scale from 1 - 10 how scary is it so far?

Pretty petrifying! About a 7 (taken down a few notches because I keep on needing to repeat sections because of untimely death) - I'm spending a lot of time cowering in random lockers

Playstation plus games for July come out tomorrow, so that's exciting. I can't wait to try out Rocket League

Haha that's a crazy premise but it looks really fun. Playstation Plus seems like a good deal for a set of new games every month.

Seriously! It looks like an incredibly hectic, fun, and just plain awesome game. I can't wait to give it a spin.

PS+ is a great deal. There's a lot of games that are offered that I'm not particularly into, but it's a great deal for the price. The thing I like most about it, is it gives me a chance to play games I'd never have tried otherwise.
