Elon Musk: This is why I push myself to the brink

Elon Musk has become infamous for his extreme work schedule. When he was ramping up production of the Model 3 Tesla, he put in as many as 120 hours in a week. He slept at the factory because he had no time to go home. He called 2018 "the most difficult and painful year of my career." "[I]t was excruciating," he told The New York Times. In late October Musk finally said he was working a much more manageable schedule of 80 to 90 hours a week.

Connected cars accelerate down data-collection highway

That holiday trip over the river and through the woods to grandmother’s house could turn into nice little gift for automakers as they increasingly collect oodles and oodles of data about the driver. Automakers are collecting valuable pieces of information thanks to the internet connections, cameras and sensors built into most vehicles in recent years. The online access makes it possible for cars to be unlocked remotely if the keys are lost.

How electric cars are slowly moving from niche to something 'people want to buy'

For your next car, would you consider plugging it in instead of filling it up? "Electric vehicle sales are still under 2 percent of the new car sales every month, so it's a very small number," said Kelley Blue Book executive analyst Rebecca Lindland. But she said that's beginning to change, especially in the luxury market.

Hacker Installs Linux On His Tesla Model 3

Smartphones have changed the way we live life. Along with the new tech, early on, we got an entire subculture of hackers who wanted to unlock their smartphones to use on other carriers or with different software. This same trend continues today, but now also with our … cars? Redditor trsohmers took on the challenge of hacking the infotainment system in his Tesla Model 3 and was able to gain root access — also known as admin access, for the Windows users in the room.

Freelance elite hackers can make more than $500,000 a year searching for security flaws and reporting those issues at big companies like Tesla and organizations like the Department of Defense, according to new data released by ethical hacking platform Bugcrowd. The company, founded in 2012, is one of a handful of so-called "bug bounty" firms that provide a platform for hackers to safely chase security flaws at companies that want to be tested.

Elon Musk reveals what Tesla would have been called if the company hadn't bought the rights to the 'Tesla' name (TSLA)

Tesla may have used a name later adopted by a competitor if it hadn't been able to buy the rights to the "Tesla" name, CEO Elon Musk said on Saturday via Twitter. According to Musk, the alternate name for the automaker was "Faraday," later used by the electric vehicle startup Faraday Future, which was founded in 2014. "Tesla history trivia: we didn’t actually come up with the Tesla Motors name. Bought trademark off Brad Siewert for $75k in late 2004.

Tesla Autopilot is ‘soon’ going to support traffic lights, roundabouts, and full self-driving, says Elon Musk

Tesla CEO Elon Musk is teasing important new developments for its Autopilot system to ‘soon’ support traffic lights, stops and roundabouts, which he says will lead to full self-driving capability. In recent months, Tesla rewrote the neural net for its Autopilot system in order to be able to deploy more advanced driver assist features that the company promised as part of its Autopilot 2.0 program released two years ago. It led to the release of ‘Navigate on Autopilot’, which suggests lane changes on the highway and takes off-ramps and interchanges.

Beyond Tesla: Here's What's Coming in Electric Vehicles

Tesla's sleek, upscale electric vehicles have captured a wide audience -- wide enough that traditional makers of luxury vehicles are feeling the need to compete directly with the Silicon Valley upstart. At the same time, Tesla has inspired other start-up electric-vehicle makers, some of whom are aiming for the same market that Tesla has so far had for itself. On top of that, the mainstream automakers are drawing inspiration from Tesla as they design their own electric vehicles for the mass market.

Elon Musk Claims '420' Tweet With $20 Million SEC Fine Was 'Worth It'

It’s arguably unfathomable that any human being slapped with a $20 million fine for a bad tweet would ever consider returning to the platform, much less continue to fire off word salad at all hours of the day and night. In the face of any logical explanation, however, one such man seemingly continues to insist that he is not owned.

Thieves steal a Tesla Model S by hacking the entry fob

Be sure to disable passive entry and enable PIN to drive on your Tesla, or this might happen. A Tesla owner who recorded thieves stealing his Model S by hacking the passive entry system has published the video on YouTube so we can all watch (and learn). It shows the crooks using a tablet to apparently capture the passive signal from his keyfob, then using the data to open the vehicle. Amusingly, the pair didn't drive off as quickly as they could have simply because they couldn't figure out how to detach the charging cable (hint: there's a button).

Tesla's future 'dog mode' would prevent humans from panicking

Tesla already has a feature to prevent its electric car interiors from overheating. Not everyone knows that, though, and that's a problem when people may call the cops or break into your ride to rescue a pet that's actually quite safe. You might not have to post a please-don't-worry sign on your window for much longer, however. Elon Musk has signaled that he'll implement a "dog mode" in future Tesla software that would tell passers-by not to panic. While he only just agreed to the idea (it's likely a long way off), it could include both a message and the current cabin temperature to assuage jittery humans.
