How do you deal with dying on Medcore?

I usually played on Hardmode, but I've gotten sick of dying and losing all my progress, so in 1.3 I started on Med and I enjoy it, but whenever I die, it's such a chore retrieving my items back and I usually just end up quitting and my items disappear.

How do you deal with this nuisance?
