General experience and environment size
Hello all -- I'm new to snapzu so I wanted to get involved more in the tribe! This community is smaller, but I like that: more personal and all that.
So a bit about me: I've been in IT since I was 17. I joined the Marine Corps as an IT specialist with the LAN/Networking designation. Went through CCNA and all that jazz before I went out to the Fleet Marine Force. I did basic LAN stuff before getting moved into a basic helpdesk type position (the Marine Corps consolidated the IT jobs from specialties to a jack-of-all-trades type situation). Spent some time fixing printers and laptops, generally not enjoying it. I left the military, went to college where I got some learning (more networking, linux, windows server and desktop, hardware maintenance, blahblahblah) under my belt. I got picked up as a junior sys admin contractor a few years ago. I started off slow doing basic server troubleshooting and getting more familiar with the environment (local gov't, 15k users, hundreds of VMs, some physical) -- financials, medical, criminal/legal...so much going on! It has been a wonderful learning experience. I recently got moved into a Sr Admin role on the Exchange team (managing enterprise-wide systems: MDM, live comm, etc) and am trying to sponge up as much as I can while transitioning some of my other responsibilities off to the recent-hire jr guys. So that's me in a nutshell!
Hopefully this community will grow more and more and I'm glad to be a part of it while it's still a smaller user-base.
