So what do you think surrealism is?

Just seeing the rules in the sidebar and the first one says "use common sense when deciding what is considered surrealism".

Thing is this kind of intuition might not that "common". It is mentioned that the "individuals's interpretation" comes into play, but that sounds completely vague.

So why not offer a few ideas of what you think qualifies a piece of content as part of the surrealist movement? It might be helpful to think beyond just "weirdness".

Just something to get this little tribe going!

Hello! Thanks for the feedback, I don't have the most experience in this, (Moderating subthingy/tribe) so it is appreciated.

    I did say

If you are unsure about what to post, check the trending page.

And then posted some things I considered to be surreal, trying to branch out a bit.

Do you think I should add some examples to the rules/make a sticky or something?

I also think it is important to add that I would like the Tribe to eventually evolve into whatever the members want it to, (Still within the basic large definition of Surrealism.) I will do my best to post often and guide the Tribe, but eventually the members would find their own definition.

      (Don't worry, I don't even moderate any tribes! :p )

Some rules may help in the beginning. That could encourage more new members who stumble upon your site to get a better idea of what can be posted. Something to better "seed" the tribe with inspiration. It would help reduce confusion about the ambiguity of allowed content.

That said, you're right that with time you'll gather enough content for incoming members to get a more or less acceptable impression of what surrealism can be in this tribe. From then you can scrap the rules, but you could still do a regular discussion post for members to share or refine their ideas about surrealism.
