Marcus Aurelius' Meditations: The Stoic Ideal

This is Michael Sugrue's (Ph.D. Princeton University) lecture on Stoicism and Marcus Aurelius. Taken from the Great Courses: Great Minds Of The Western Intellectual Tradition 2nd edition, 1995 VHS tape.

It's the very first video that I watched about stoicism. I found it when I was researching about Marcus Aurelius, and it's what got me into stoicism. I've watched it countless times.

It's split in 5 videos. He begins talking about stoicism at 4:24 in the 1st video.

Enjoy it!

He makes an interesting point about Marcus Aurelius being the embodiment of Plato's philosopher king if such a man ever existed. Marcus was truly an incredible man, if I didn't know about him I would have refused to believe that such a man can exist.
