Spotify is in 'advanced talks' to buy SoundCloud
Those rumors that SoundCloud is shopping itself around? They just got more substantial. Financial Times sources understand that Spotify is in "advanced talks" to buy SoundCloud. Details of the terms are still scarce at the moment, but it won't surprise you to hear that Spotify is declining to comment. We've asked SoundCloud for its take as well. A buyout would be expensive for Spotify, which is seeing a surge of paying customers but still isn't turning a profit. However, it would definitely make a sense from a strategic perspective.

Spotify has been sending computer viruses to listeners
Spotify has been found to be serving malware to listeners who use the free version of its service, with its adverts directing PC users to virus-riddled websites. Users of the music streaming software reported that the program would continually open their default web browser to load websites infested with malware. The issue affected users of Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems, leading to complaints on the Spotify Community website and Twitter. The malware websites, some of which attempt to install viruses automatically without the user clicking anything, appear to have nothing to do with the advert in question.

Spotify’s student plan is already $4.99 monthly, so you’re basically getting Hulu tossed in for free. You can sign up here.

The Huffington Post abruptly yanked an article critical of Spotify this week, for reasons that are unclear. Here's what was removed — in its entirety. But first, a little background. The op-ed was written by artist advocate Blake Morgan, and included heated conversations between Morgan and Spotify executives. According to David Lowery (also an artist advocate), the piece was removed just as it was gaining some serious traction.
