US drone strike kills leader of Daesh in Afghanistan and Pakistan
A senior Isis (also known as Daesh) leader has been killed in a US drone strike, according to reports by Afghanistan’s intelligence service. Hafiz Saeed is understood to be Isis’ leader in Afghanistan and Pakistan. He was one of more than 30 militants killed in an airstrike in the Nangarhar province yesterday. Abdul Hassib Sediqi, spokesperson for the National Directorate of Security, told media today that the strike had been carried out by US forces acting on Afghan intelligence information.

Pakistani intelligence sought to tap worldwide internet traffic via underwater cables that would have given the country a digital espionage capacity to rival the US, according to a report by Privacy International. No calls, no texts, no data: Pakistan shuts down telecommunications for two days
Mobile networks are blocked across Pakistan for two days (October 23 and 24), according to local media reports, as the government ordered telcos to shut operations because of security concerns. The shutdown affects mobile texts and phone calls, but not landlines and fixed broadband connections. This kind of shut down is a familiar trend. It comes during the month of Muharram, when Muslim sectarian tensions are at their highest.

BlackBerry leaves Pakistan following government backdoor demands
BlackBerry is pulling out of Pakistan entirely next year, saying it won't sell devices or services there because the government has demanded access to BlackBerry Enterprise Service emails and BBM chats. Pakistan issued a shutdown order on BlackBerry services in July of this year, telling the country’s mobile phone operators the company would no longer be allowed to operate in the country after Nov. 30 due to "security reasons."
