Nevada bans employers from refusing to hire those who fail marijuana tests
Starting in 2020, Nevada employers cannot refuse to hire a job applicant for failing a marijuana screening test, making it the first state to pass such a law. "It is unlawful for any employer in this State to fail or refuse to hire a prospective employee because the prospective employee submitted to a screening test and the results of the screening test indicate the presence of marijuana," states the law, signed by Gov. Steve Sisolak on June 5.

Clark County, Nevada — home to Las Vegas, as well as most of the state's population — is making good on its promise to use legal cannabis revenue to fund programs designed to help disadvantaged residents. This Tuesday, Clark County commissioners voted unanimously to direct nearly $1.8 million in cannabis business license fees to create new housing opportunities for the homeless and people suffering from medical problems.

13 wild burros found shot to death in Nevada desert
Someone is killing wild burros near the Nye County town of Beatty. Over the past 10 days, 13 burros have been found shot to death on public land within about 10 miles of the town 120 miles northwest of Las Vegas. Bureau of Land Management is investigating with assistance from the Nye County Sheriff’s Office, which fielded the first report of three dead burros on May 5.

Regulating and funding mental health services in Nevada is complicated at best. But from state officials to community groups, people are looking to address state-specific issues through legislation. “I think this is an issue on people’s radars,” said Nancy Brune, executive director of the Kenny Guinn Center for Policy Priorities. The center has released reports on mental health services and recommendations on how to best approach some of the challenges.

Nevada running out of weed, ‘state of emergency’ declared
Nevada's governor has endorsed a state of emergency declared for recreational marijuana regulations, after the state's tax authority declared that many stores are running out of weed. The Nevada Tax Commission said in a statement it will consider emergency regulations on July 13 to provide a structure for marijuana distribution to retailers. It would allow for liquor wholesalers to get in on the marijuana business.
