Just joined, reddit refugee (main interest: computer programming)

On reddit for about 8 years. Lurking on snapzu for about a week reminds me of early days of reddit.com when participating and the audience was more mature (as in "emotional maturity" not "years of age").

What I really enjoyed about interacting with reddit of yesteryear is exposure to other spheres outside of my field's narrow focus.

It encouraged me to read about topics I'd never actively seek out on my own (from fashion to biology and medicine to astronomy) with quality writing and fresh perspective that would never have occurred to me otherwise. The discussions were factual, on point, corrective but also fun and lively.

On face of it snapzu appears to be this way. Here's hoping I'm right and it remains that way.

I prefer actively participating in online communities (interact and share ideas with other members) rather than exclusively and passively consuming content and I'd like to continue with that on snapzu. I find it rewarding when the forum is open without being hysterical. If closed and/or hysterical discussions become norm I retreat back to passive consumption (even though I find it mostly unrewarding).

Besides computer programming I have other interests but that is a career which I have been in and plan to stay in for quite a number of years so if anyone could recommend good tribes for programmers I'm all ears (it's seems as good a place as any to start with at snapzu)

So that's my online "responsibly anonymous" persona in a nutshell.

PS in programming languages I am proficient in C#, JavaScript, TypeScript, SQL and a few others lesser (known and popular like Lingo, VB, XSLT) but outside of day-to-day I am also a fan of Rust, Python, Ruby, F#, Smalltalk, Scheme, OCaml, Lisp. These days my primary focus is on "front-end" web so I try blend that by following trends in design, UX and related topics.
