I like this idea, but as far as I remember, they said that they can't actually remove stuff from the front page as it would take up too much resources to re-organize for each individual user. Maybe some kind of curtain feature could work where it covers the image and title saying "Viewed" that's only available to members. It could also show stats such as any new comments or similar links since hiding.

I'd find this useful also.
