Voat started working again and here's why I'm not joining it...

Voat messed up man, they never should've opened the floodgates like they did. Now it's full of reddit outcasts and conspiracy nuts.

I don't understand why didn't try to cultivate a community first.

From what I read, they had a community before, but the reddit newcomers just steamrolled them. Mind you, I think their community has always been kind of conspiracy-nut-oriented.

I'm so glad redditors are making an effort to protect Snapzu's character.

Yeah, from what I remember voat got its start as a censorship free reddit, which kinda started attracting the conspiracy types. Combine that with all the fat people hate types, you have a toxic user base. I like that snapzu never went down that road, so we don't have to deal with people tryna open up jailbait tribes...

I fear that voat has been invaded by the worst of reddit. They should have implemented an invite system like Snapzu.

They actively courted that kind of users.

Yep, it is where people head when their sub is banned.

Voat is full of FPH and jailbait users. If two letters can describe Voat, it's LQ

I'm sorry, but I can't figure out LQ is meant to represent.

What are they censoring? did you just get heavily downvoted there for pointing out censorship?

There's some heavy duty brigading on voat at the moment. I fear the voat community might never stabilize again.

Aw that's a shame. I know voat got the most attention as Reddit's "replacement site".

Let all the undesirables flood their site. Snapzu will remain as "The Nicest People You Don't Know" to me.

Voat's paypal account was limited, forcing voat to remove some of the seedier subs. (jailbait clones seemed to be the main ones).

Otherwise I'm pretty sure OP is just making a general statement about the cultural atmosphere here where down voting is rarely used.

Their frontpage seems like Reddit had a bastard child with Facebook.

Voat gronked up their life as a website, because the first wave of users were all really mean and hateful people- like FPH defenders, or when the news of an "SJW cabal" broke. The alignment of values among the users was repulsive. Combined with the fact that the people who run the site will stand by the free speech no matter what (respect for that, despite the material), and that they seem to be running their website on a potato battery and a PS3, Voat will probably fail.

I wouldn't underestimate the number and power of hateful/stupid people... They could probably do perfectly well (even if at the same time be a total cesspool) populated entirely by hateful people.

Their ability to run a website with such a large number of users however may be their downfall. Today is the first day I have ever been able to get on there without that goat greeting me.

I just don't even feel the need to join. I have Snapzu. I have Hubski. I discovered Panjury during all of the drama. And even then, even though I think its slowly dying, Reddit isn't dead yet. I wen't over there to create an account when it came back up, took one look at it and said it wasn't worth it. A lot of what is on voat is what I was trying to get away from looking for reddit alternatives. I'll stick with reddit till it probably dies, but I'm not heading to a clone.

I too will have a link with Reddit until it dies out. The Snapzu community is amazing and all, but smaller subreddits (like /r/cpp_questions and /r/windows10) have not yet migrated and such content is important to me.

Yup, thats true. I'm trying to birth /t/learnprogramming, but it will be a long time before that has anywhere near the activity of its respective subreddit.

Some folks from reddit just looked for another venue to behave badly. Hoping SNAPZU does descend into the same thuggish behaviour.

That is truly the least of the problems at Voat.
