Good morning Snapzu
It is currently almost 11:00, the sun is bright but cold and I'm starting this week with an entire new community to discover. Please bear with me while I read the operating instructions and try not to short-circuit the expensive equipment or offend the ambassador at the gala dinner. Thank you.

I'm excited for more new users! If you get lost, at the bottom of the page there are a bunch of helpful links: FAQ, Prologue, etc. As well, check out /t/newtribes as there are tons of great new tribes being made every day and they'd love some more content. If you have feedback for site changes, head to /t/ideasforsnapzu to share.
It's roughly two-thirty in the morning here, and hello!
I'm not sure where the gala dinner is at, but I'm sure you'll do fine. :)
Hey, it's 2:30 here too! Wazzap West Coast woo woo!
!!!
o/ High Five!
Good morning. I've had a crappy end of my weekend, so I'm actually glad to be at work, for a change. But good morning, to you too.
Oh no! :( Why was the end of your weekend crappy? Are you having fun at work at least?
I wrecked the hard drive of my laptop, it's not booting anymore.
So I'm going to have to buy a new one, but a lot of data was lost, sadly.
On the plus side, it also gives a chance to start over and manage my data in a better way. The "whatever space I find first" method isn't exactly the best way if you want to be able to find your stuff again.
Just a PSA, don't ever, and I mean ever, vent frustration with a knock on your laptop with your knuckles in the area where your HDD sits, as it has a chance of completely wrecking the rest of your day.
Oh my goodness, don't worry, I know that feeling.
The amount of times I've broken a laptop out of anger when I was younger - I feel really bad about it. Seriously, I'll tell you some stories.
- Well, my first laptop, a little $200 Compaq I never acted violently towards it - eventually the battery died and it kept overheating because it couldn't handle the games I was playing. I think it still kind of works actually! Just with a dead battery and fan, hah.
- My second laptop was a hand-me-down from my mother - a Toshiba whose screen eventually went black and wouldn't turn on. I threw that one on the ground. Screen broke. I'm really stupid.
- My third was a gift from an ex-boyfriend, a $300 Acer from Walmart. I got pretty iritated one day when nothing was loading, closed the screen, and smacked it with my hand. Opened it up a second later to see a beautiful gooey broken screen. (We actually fixed this laptop and now my brother uses it.)
Now my fourth laptop, dear god I loved that laptop to death. I wouldn't ever break it or abuse it. It was a present from my father. I've used it for about four years. It went through a fan replacement, an HDD replacement, keys breaking off, and a freaking drop that dented a corner of it. But I still loved it regardless of all that. It was my shitty little puttering workhorse.
So, in the middle of finals, I was rendering a scene (3D modeling environment) for my class at home on it. The final was tomorrow. Suddenly, screen turns black while the fan whirs angrily rendering all the trees and particles in the scene. After about an hour or two of fiddling, nothing fixed it. We eventually determined the cause of death to be graphics card blow-out.
I cried for days. I shit you not. Tears streaming down my face and the wailing of a mother who just lost her child. There's construction going on at my apartments, so loud construction noises everywhere right? While browsing on my new laptop (bought myself, I really hate it) I started missing my old laptop and cried and wailed non-stop. After I stopped, it was awkwardly silent - no construction noise, whole building was silent.
I, uh, am now on my fifth laptop. This ASUS with Windows 8.1 that is the bane of my existence. It's actually way better at rendering and game development than my old one, but hell. I still miss my old laptop.
My stepbrother's laptop recently had an HDD failure and I helped him try and get as many photos off as possible. We now have an external HDD - always good to have a backup. :)
So, I hope you save as many files as you can and enjoy the cleanliness of your new HDD! :) Always look on the bright side of things, it'll get better.
At the time I was working on subtitling a youtube video (through Amara.org), and my keyboard was starting to act up, the E's and T's suddenly didn't register as good as it should, so for instance 'tegen' (the Dutch word for against) took me 5 times to get right.
That just frustrated me, and I slammed down on the laptop, I heard the hard disk start making a loud noise, and I knew I had done something tremendously stupid. I clicked save as quickly as I could, but I was already too late.
On another machine I confirmed that it had not saved my work of that day.
And when I tried to reboot the machine, I can hear the disk try to whir up, but then just powers down again, until I see the bios screen, and I'm left without an OS. So, I know what I can do tonight. Buy a new HDD and reinstall my OS.
Amara looks like a really cool website!
I'm so sorry you lost all your work. I hope you can at least have a nice new HDD and maybe some files still saved.
It's a handy webtool for subtitling youtube-videos that I once found, but apparently it doesn't save drafts midway. So that was a painful lesson.
When I get my laptop back up and running, I'll pick up where I left off with the subs.
It's a brand new week, and that means new opportunities for awesome/better stuff to happen.
Good morning even though it's night here and very cold!
