I agree completely! The metric system is a standardized system that literally every other country uses except for America. I know that I personally find the imperial system more and more confusing as I use it in my engineering dimensions.

I'd go more along the lines of teaching the children both from when they are really little. That way they don't have to change a shit ton of infrastructure in America for the new generation of children who now know the metric system. Eventually, it would get weeded out
