Killing Fields journalist Sydney Schanberg dies at 82
US journalist Sydney Schanberg, whose reporting inspired the Oscar-winning Hollywood film, The Killing Fields, has died at the age of 82, the New York Times reports. Schanberg worked for the Times and won a Pulitzer Prize for reporting the fall of Cambodia to the Khmer Rouge in 1975. His colleague, Dith Pran, was unable to leave and his four-year ordeal inspired Schanberg's work. Schanberg died in Poughkeepsie after a heart attack earlier in the week.

Morley Safer, Longtime '60 Minutes' Correspondent, Dies at 84
Morley Safer, 84, died at his home in Manhattan. He was the longest-serving correspondent at CBS News. Funeral arrangements are private, CBS said, adding that a memorial service will be announced at a later date. Due to declining health, he announced his retirement last week.

Turkey Has Released VICE News Journalist Mohammed Rasool On Bail
VICE News journalist Mohammed Ismael Rasool has been released on bail in Turkey after spending more than four months behind bars on terrorism charges. Rasool was detained alongside two VICE News colleagues on August 27 and sent to a maximum security prison. A document issued by a court in Diyarbakir stated that no bail payment was made, that Rasool was detained "as a protective measure," and he cannot leave the country. He must also report twice a week to a police station near where he lives.

The network reports that Tom Walters is facing a charge of interfering with a police officer.
