I'd recommend https://www.fanfiction.net/s/2889350/1/Bungle-in-the-Jungle-A-Harry-Potter-Adventure even though it has many flaws to it, it's fun, adventurous and is done in a unique style. I have never read a piece of fiction, fanfic or otherwise, that has been written in 2nd person other than this and it's sequel. Once you've got past the first few chapters it's no longer jarring and provides an experience that's more immersive than other more common styles.
I've read the first 80 or so chapters when it wasn't complete and it was the first fic I ever read. I've tried to reread it now it's finished and I just can't get through it.
So a friend just linked me to the James Potter series by G. Norman Lippert the other day. I've always kind of avoided fan fiction in the past and I'm not really sure why, but I think it may have something to do with the quality of writing. Bad writing just kind of breaks the immersion for me. Has anyone read this and want to give it a seal of approval/disapproval before I delve into it?
I did read methods of rationality for a while but got distracted by other things and haven't been able to get back into it.
I'd honestly say it depends on the person. I'd never limit myself to all time favorites, and I'd like to consider the person and their tastes before I recommend.
That being said, anyone have hankering for something specific? I might have read something that sorta fits the bill.

Thanks, I'll definitely check it out!
It starts out quite bashy and the women aren't written well but once you get past that it's a lot of fun.
I love Methods of Rationality: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/5782108/1/Harry_Potter_and_the_Methods_of_Rationality Oh it's so good and hilarious. Had forgotten about, going to re-read now. Yay!

A Year Like None Other is a Snape-mentors-Harry story, amazingly well written.
